Fancy a drink with your Cheerios?
A Toronto councillor is proposing opening the city’s bars at 6 a.m. for the last four days of Olympic hockey.
Mike Layton told the Toronto Star he would introduce the motion at city hall next week.
Layton also said that during the World Cup in 2010, bars opened at 10 a.m. Still, that’s just one hour earlier than normal – not five hours earlier.
The motion, if passed, would allow people to have a drink if they watch the later stages of the hockey tournament at a bar.
The men’s gold medal game at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics starts at 7 a.m. on Feb. 23.
Reaction was mixed online, with one CityNews reader writing “If people can’t watch hockey with out beer there are issues.”
However, others couldn’t see the problem. “Obviously??” Lauren Hummel tweeted.
Another questioned why city council would even debate the matter.
“Is Council going to really waste time and our money to discuss this item… there are real issues out there people,” Freda Warner said.
